Dell announces Ubuntu 7.10 PCs with DVD playback

Dell is releasing Ubuntu 7.10 on a laptop and desktop today and with it, Dell will include DVD playback capability. ZOMG DVD Playback? I guess it’s nice linux is getting a little limelight but they make it look so “elementry”.

    Have the numbers been released for the dell PC with Ubuntu? I’m curious to see how many people have been buying these and if they have just been over hyped.

    I did some reading and Dell supposedly has a policy of not releasing sales figures so I don’t really know. I do also wonder how these machines are selling considering the fact that you can simply download ubuntu and run it on practically any PC.

    Even if they don’t release actual figures you think they would give some idea of how its doing. Maybe a percent of how many people buy Ubuntu of all customers.

    Sadly, the reports from awhile ago said something like 1% of all sales were Ubuntu boxes. Keep in mind that was from like October. I’m not sure how they are doing now.
